Hitz History

UCCLogoHitz Memorial Home is operated as a not-for-profit nursing center related to the Illinois Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ by membership in The Council for Health and Human Service Ministries. Its management is the responsibility of a Board of Directors that consists mainly of United Church of Christ members and other community volunteers.
Hitz Memorial Home began operation as a nursing home in the fall of 1952. The original “old stately mansion” along with a legacy, was a gift of Mr. & Mrs. Adolf Hitz. A small addition was added to the Scanhouse, so that it had a bed capacity of 25. Two new additions came in 1970 and 1975. The old home was then torn down as State requirements made it impossible to continue to use the frame structure. The present capacity of the nursing home is 67 beds. The facilities’ Independent Senior Living wing has 10 apartments that were opened in January 2013.
imagesHitz Memorial Home had its beginning because of concern for the well-being of the elderly, the sick and the infirm. Our mission is  “To provide a caring community  reflecting faith-based values within which resident’s rights are respected and fulfilled.”
